November 30th, 2010They are doing some amazing work over at voiceproject.org and I was lucky to be a part of it covering one of my favorite singers (and people), Rachael Yamagata.
Typical Day on Tour With Sara Bareilles

7:00am Shower.
7:15am Wake up Jon Titterington (trumpet and keyboard player) and give him my breakfast order.
8:00am Call/text Jon and ask him what the hell is taking so long, followed by a succinct verbal attack.
8:15am Wake up Chris Giraldi (drummer) and invite him to watch me eat breakfast.
9:00am Band meeting and show debriefing. Band members tell me their favorite parts of my performance the night before.
10:00am I give my notes to the band and passive aggressively threaten them.
11:00am Fifteen minute break for everyone except Jon, who starts preparing lunch.
11:15am Pre-lunch sparing/combat. I perfect graceful and fluid combat moves on the band.
NOON Lunch (except for the member who I think gave the least during the show the night before).

1:30pm Begin the drive to the venue.
4:00pm Load-in and immediately meet with Sara and her band so that I can give them my notes from the night before.
5:00pm Soundcheck.
6:00pm No-hands-cartwheel-kick to Chris straight in his groin.
6:15pm Band free-time. Band members are allowed and encouraged to take some alone time.
6:18pm Reconvene and talk about what we’ve learned.
7:00pm “Super Supper.” I limit conversation to only super topics.
8:00pm Showtime.
9:00pm The band begins loading out while Sara plays her set and I write poetry.
10:30pm Sara finishes her set and we all gather for a reading of my newest poem.
11:00pm Back to the hotel for lights out.
