I wrote the majority of the songs for “Take a Bow” while I was in the studio, so early demos of the songs had a way of just being added to until they became final versions. Well, the other day I thought to myself, “I think it’s okay to wear shorts with a sport coat. I mean, I don’t see it that often, but I think I could do it.” And then a few hours later when I was thinking about stuff again, I thought, “I should go back and record stripped down versions of all of these songs.” So I opened a little four-track session and put a few down. It was difficult for me not to begin adding things again (I’m a producer at heart), but I treated it as an exercise in discipline and I like what came out.
I’ll be uploading one song a week while I’m on tour with Sara Bareilles and you’ll be able to download each for free via Facebook. I hope you enjoy them and perhaps I will see you out on the road.
