September 19, 2004 Holy Toledo I
|
| |
Arrived in Detroit yesterday and drove into Toledo that night.
There was a jam on the freeway between the two, so Dan and I
took country roads. Todedo is beautiful. There are trees
everywhere and you can always find parking downtown. Known
as the "city of glass", Toledo lays claim to the Toledo Mud Hens,
the world famous Jeep and Katie Holmes. (I drove by her house
last night. I will go by again tomorrow and again in the
morning).
Toledo strikes me as a city that once was rather than a city that
is. It made it's mark in the 1940s with the manufacturing of
asbestos. There lies the miserable irony, and Toledo still
struggles today. Ask someone who lives here and they will tell
you that Toledo is inhaling for its second wind. I believe
them.
I played at Easy Street last night and I play at Happy
Badger on Tuesday (on a real piano!).
I find rest here
in the company of good friends, good food and Ava - the dog
that is solely responsible for me getting Shep. She is pictured
above (showing her good eye). |
